Dr. Yvette E. Pearson is recognized globally for nearly 30 years of contributions to engineering education. The host of Engineering Change Podcast, her mission is to inspire, impel, and institutionalize change towards ubiquitous inclusion (UI) so that justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion become universal standards in engineering education and practice.
A Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), Dr. Pearson has been an invited speaker at events hosted by the National Academy of Engineering, Brookings Institution, UN Foundation, ABET, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), the World Federation of Engineering Organizations, and other engineering societies as well as numerous universities, corporations, and governmental agencies.
ASCE News acknowledged Dr. Pearson among “the most renowned engineers in the world.” ILSI Engineering recognized her as one of “10 women trailblazers of civil and structural engineering.” She has been quoted and featured by Media Planet in Business and Tech, in the Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, ASCE News (now Civil Engineering Source), and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education; she served as an Education contributor for PE Magazine; and she has been featured in Medium, Civil Engineering Magazine, Prism, and Voyage Houston Magazine.
Dr. Pearson has led teams to acquire and administer over $13M in funding to support projects designed to ensure full participation of persons from marginalized groups in STEM education and careers. Through workshops and personal consulting, Dr. Pearson’s clients and workshop attendees have secured ~$30M in funding since 2017. She serves on advisory boards for organizations such as the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), ASCE Industry Leadership Council; and for projects at institutions such as LSU, Purdue University, Virginia Tech, and Florida International University.
Dr. Pearson is a devoted mother and daughter who in her free time enjoys singing, songwriting, and performing. She and her brother released an EP in 2017 titled, “So Amazing” under their stage name, TraVet. She wrote, co-produced, and with her brother performed "Inspired," the theme song for Engineering Change Podcast.
